Car Detailing
Hello, fellow Saab-ists!
Its getting to be that time again. Time to dust off the detailing tools and give the car a thorough going-over to rid it of all that dirty, nasty, grimy, disgusting wintertime gunk that's been sprayed onto our cars for the past season. Or longer, I suppose, depending on where you are.
This time, I find myself out of many of my usual car detailing products, and am wondering if any of you have any suggestions on if there is anything to replace them with.
What does everyone else like to use to give that little bit of TLC to their Swedish machines? Clay bars, waxes, leather cleaners, leather conditioners, carpet shampoos, vinyl cleaners, and plastic sealers. What's your favorite brand and why do you like it?
My favorite for most things is anything made by Meguiar's. Basically, if they make it, I'm comfortable using it. I know it's unoriginal, but for what I've used it on, it works brilliantly.
I know I'm certainly looking forward to a discussion on this topic, bit then, I'm also a bit boring.Last edited by Rognmoe; 16 March 2012 at 03:27.

I was going to talk about the products that I used last year. But I realized I already done that in a previous detailing thread so it was easier to merge these 2.
And yes, I am also a Meguiars fan.

AJs took on the complete detail challenge of this 1995 SAAB 900. The car was used as a commuter vehicle through the red dirt roads of Mendocino County. The customer was hoping to sell the car and needed a professional to handle this extreme detailing job. Watch to see the amazing transformation!

I am thinking of having the exterior of my car detailed, primarily because I haven't buffed before, only have used a clay bar. There's some minor scratches on my black Saab.
On another car, I'm testing some Malm's wax, which is quite expensive (about $35 for 8 oz.), applied on half of the hood and Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step 3 (not certain the exact name but it doesn't have any polish). Since putting it on in April, I haven't noticed any difference in appearance or beading action against water. Malm's is easier to apply. They say to use about 1 oz. per car. Meguiars is somewhat thick.

The clay bar should be able to take out minor scratches if they are on top of the clear-coat. The buffing part is really not that hard to do and a machine makes it easier. The most important is taking your time and use good quality products.

Car wash tip - I recently discovered dirt caked up inside the wheel well above the rear wheels. I know I have sprayed the hose around under there when I washed the car but this spot apparently isn't easy to get water into unless you work at it. I ran my fingertips back & forth a few times and knocked out quite a lot of dried dirt.
