Mentioning what engine your 2004 9-3 has is really important when asking for help with engine codes, as you don't have a DIC your car should be a 2.0t with individual coil packs and an ION module. If this code came with spark plug replacement, the first thing to check is the spark plug gap.
The plugs, coil packs and ION module are way to interdependent complicated to explain how this code can happen, so just pull your new plugs and check the gaps. The plug gap specs may say you can run from .035 to .039, but that doesn't mean that four plugs can have three or four different gap sizes inside that range and not throw a code. This is a precision measurement check with feeler gage.

If the top looks closed with the front pulled down tight and the display tells you it's not, you probably had a stuck sensor, or the signals somehow got out of synch, or you have low fluid, or bad pump, or, or, or. Either way you will need to open it manually to find out, so open it manually and then hold the switch until it closes completely and run it up and down a couple of times. If it was just a sticky switch they usually get unstuck with use.

Your top sensors are on the pump or in the hydraulic lines near the pump, but for which is which and what does what you will need to get your own WIS copy, way to many pictures in the step by step troubleshooting to copy and post.
Did your top run up after you lowered it? If not check your fuses first.

I'm having a similar issue with my 2007 9-3 2.0T but the issue only occurs when I am at high speeds 70mph+ and I accelerate pushing my turbo. As soon as it hits the red, the engine starts to shudder. Feels like misfiring but not sure. It's pretty bad so as soon as I feel it, I lay off the pedal and it goes away immediately. So it's definitely engine, and not alignment balance, etc. Shortly afterwards I got the P1312 code. Changes the plugs to the NGK recommended, put new OEM coil packs on cylinder 1 & 2. Problem persists. Tried swapping packs to position 3&4 and cleaned MAS. I'm thinking this is not ignition coil at all. Thoughts?

p1312 Error code need Help
Hey guys I just purchased this car a month ago for work and its already giving me problems.
Im getting error code p1213 and it shakes when i accelerate around 50-60 so basically highway speeds. I did some research and found out it has something to do with my coils or something. Im not much of a car guy, well i try to be but im learning so i dont know much about the terminology. Is this a misfire on a cylinder? What should I try doing or what should i replace first? Should I replace the coil packs?Last edited by nordwulf; 31 October 2017 at 18:24. Reason: merged with other thread

Coil packs the work with the car and without throwing codes aren't the cheap ones and when you replace packs you always replace plugs, start with replacing spark plugs. Download a copy of the WIS, very important thing to have if you're going to do your own work and knowing what might need to be done will help you decide when it's best to pay a shop to do the work.
By now you have probably Googled up Saab coil packs and found the cheap aftermarkets, save yourself the frustration. Plugs can fix this problem and if they do you're money ahead. If they don't, you will be putting them in when you do the coils and pay the money to get the OEM coils.

No, that is an ignition cassette for the 9-5 and previous generation 9-3. The 2.0 engine in your 9-3 uses the individual ignition coils. And as Digger mentioned, use Saab OEM coils and not cheap aftermarket.

They also have a kit that includes the spark plugs and dielectric grease.
