Halogen H7 high beams with Xenon - Relay 666 modification - 2002-05 Saab 9-5

Original discussion thread

First you will need:
1) Some Appropriate Gauge Wire - about 1 foot length
2) 3 Terminal Spades - long ones (I sourced them from a Saab connector kit @ work)
3) A large but connector or junction connector your 3 wires will snugly fit into
4) Heat Shrink Tube

Tools you Need:
1) Wire Stripper
2) Wire Crimper
3) Heat Source to shrink tube and connectors
4) Solder and Solder Iron


First cut the wire into 3 equal lengths - I went with about 3-4 inches
Strip the one end and crimp the spade connector onto it. Use some solder to ensure a solid connection.
Install shrink tube over your wire/solder and seal.
Repeat this 2 more times.

Next Strip the other ends of the wire to 10mm exposed.
Fit the three ends equally together into your end connector and crimp.
Heat the connector to seal the ends and ensure a tight bond.

Your completed wire jumper should look something like this:






With your hood open - access the relay panel next to your brake reservoir.



Once open, carefully remove your "Flash To Pass" Relay #FR1



Note the position of the 87, 87a, and 30 terminals on the relay;



Install the wire jumper into these pins in the fuse panel - once installed it will look like this;



To test you result start up your car - turn your Xenon lights on and turn on your high-beams - you should now look like this!




Success! Now you can see very well @ night with the Xenon's @ 100% plus your H7 High-beams on together. Mine also work with the fog lamps on since I have full Euro mode enabled via Tech2 program setting.

I guess the way these cars are set up with HID and DRL's means that the Halogens have never been used!

Got time to get at it and got it done today!
I used 12g copper wire and soldered a piece in to make a 'm' shape. Works great!

To be "frank" - the Halogens are ONLY used originally for the flash to pass when the headlights are off. So unless you are me - likely they have only been flashed a few times.

I would reccomend you wrap your "handle" with either heat shrink tube or electrical tape as that would be a live wire exposed otherwise.

Is there a procedure to get this to work on a 9-3? I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 with factory bi-xenon hid's and would like to have the halogens on. Thanks!

Getting to this kind of late but i have wrapped the handle with heat shrink. Great idea Burnsside! I forgot to post it here.

Chrismos I'm not sure if there is one. If you know anything about wiring you could maybe make a tutorial. I'm sure if you search you can find the schematics for the wiring. (If it's the same relay for the high lights as the 9-5.... It may be the same procedure... That's a guess.)
