General
The SID has a service indicator that displays the message “Time for service. Contact service.” when the car needs servicing. When this message is shown is determined by the odometer (distance since last service) and a timer that counts the number of days since the last service.
The service interval is programmable and is programmed during production according to the various markets. If necessary, the interval can be changed using the diagnostic tool.
Activation of the service message
The service message is shown when the day counter reaches 365 days or when 1000 km or 600 miles are left until the next service, whichever is the sooner. The message is shown when the ignition is turned on and reads “CHECKING”.
Manual reset
The service message is reset by pressing and holding the CLEAR button for at least 8 seconds. The SID gives two acoustic signals in quick succession. On the second signal “SERVICE” starts to flash. Resetting means that the service interval is recalculated and the day counter zeroed.
Automatic reset
The service message is reset automatically when it has been activated (shown) on the display 20 times.
Reset with diagnostic tool
The service message can be reset using the diagnostic tool even if it has not been activated. This is useful if a service is carried out before a long journey for example. The time to next service is then calculated starting from the current odometer reading. On resetting, the day counter is also zeroed at the same time.

General
The SID control module shows service messages on the main instrument display when servicing is due. Any of the following messages may be displayed:
• Time for intermediate service
• Time for main service
• Time for intermediate and main service
Intermediate service
The determination of an appropriate time for an intermediate service depends on the distance travelled since the last service and on the oil quality. The oil quality is calculated according to an algorithm stored in the diesel engine control module. The algorithm takes into consideration time, number of cold-starts, the number of crankshaft revolutions and the distance travelled.
Main service

This combination of intermediate and main service occurs when the scheduled times for both service types are close together and the criteria for one of them are satisfied.
The service interval is programmable and is programmed during production according to the various markets. If necessary, the interval can be changed using the diagnostic tool.

Depending upon which occurs first, the service message is displayed either when the day counter reaches the maximum number of days or when 1000 km or 600 miles remain to the next service. The algorithm used to determine the service point also takes into account cold- starts and crankshaft revolutions.
The message is displayed when the ignition is switched on in conjunction with “CHECKING”.
Manual reset
The service message is reset by holding both the CLR button and the brake pedal depressed for at least 8 seconds. An acoustic signal is sounded when the deletion is complete. The message can only be deleted when it is displayed on the SID. The reset initiates a new service interval and zeroes the day counter.
Reset with diagnostic tool
It is possible to reset the service message using the diagnostic tool even if the message has not been activated. The brake pedal must be depressed when the reset is carried out with Tech 2.
A reset can be appropriate if for example a service is carried out before a long journey. The interval to the next service is then calculated using the current odometer reading as the starting point. With a reset the day counter is also zeroed.
