    Saab 9-3 - maintenance/service schedule

This is information from the WIS for the 2008 Saab 9-3. Other model years should be the same. Please note there are different service schedules for USA/Canada, Europe, Worldwide, Diesel and BioPower.

The service interval is determined by both distance and time

    TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 100-2490
    Date:...........September 2004

    Cars affected
All Saab models and model years.

    Background
There have been instances where a number of workshops only allow distance to determine
service intervals. The time interval is equally as important as, for example, the engine oil's
service life decreases even when the car is not driven. If the time interval is not adhered to
there can be unnecessary and costly repairs as a consequence.

    Procedure
In addition to distance which indicates when a car should undergo service, there is also a time
interval which indicates when service should be carried out, irrespective of whether the
mileage for the current service is reached.

It is extremely important that the service interval is determined by whichever is reached first,
time or distance, in order to maintain the properties of the engine oil for example.

This principle applies to all cars, both with diesel and petrol engines.

    1. Saab 9-3 (9400) M02 with 4-cylinder petrol engine: The service interval in many markets is 1 year or max. 20 000 km, depending on which is reached first.
    2. Saab 9-5 M05 with 4-cylinder petrol engine: The service interval in many markets is 1 year or max. 30 000 km, depending on which is reached first.
    3. Saab 9-3 (9440) M05 with 4-cylinder petrol engine: The service interval in many markets is 2 years or max. 30 000 km, depending on which is reached first.

In addition, the car itself calculates from a number of different parameters when it is time for service. In these cases the car's message "TIME FOR SERVICE" must be observed.

In addition, in the Owner's Manual for the car there are a number of driving conditions where shorter service intervals are recommended.

    Greetings
I have been looking for a service list for our 2011 93aero TTiD 180. The dealership we purchased it from sent us a service plan which only listed servicing based on mileage. possibly due to the mileage we predicted we would do. They listed as main services 36k,54k,72k,90k,108k and 126k. What I've been trying to find is a list of what during each service requires checking, adjusting, replacing etc.
I thought I had struck gold when I found your posting, but after reading, it dawned on me these are for petrol models. Although using these lists would be great guidelines for servicing our diesel, they will not tell me about the timing belt or diesel only parts. Last weekend I began the 72k service. Oil & air filters, oil, brakes etc. then found out the timing belt should be replaced, and maybe the water pump too. I have booked this in to be done next Friday, I'm not brave enough to try this on a car yet (might try first on a mower engine I have). The two questions I have are:-

    1. Does anyone have a service check list for diesels. Or specifically the 2011 19TTiD 180bhp (A19DTR).
    2. What is the difference between the Z19DTR and the A19DTR engine.
Not sure if I've posted this in the correct place, I will edit it and post it again in the 93 2003/14 forum

    Many thanks in advance

    Cheers for now

    Dave
