- 2000 saab 9-3 viggen 2003 saab 9-5 aero wagon
Hello!
Not sure if someone still read this topic, but what I understand that "C" means - Automatic transmission adapted to different engine variants. But than what means "A"??? I have 2003 saab 9-5 aero with FA57C02 transmission and because of accident (fedex truck hit my car on the street parking) I have to replace the transmission. So I found one FA57A08. Some people say that the differences are gear rotation, other people that is the year build. Any one can help me? I need to make sure that transmission will fit on my car. The transmission is coming from 2004 saab 9-5 arc/liner

C-transmissions can handle higher torque and are installed in Aero-models. A-transmissions are the standard transmissions you will find in the low-torque models.
FA57C01 was introdused in 2002 Aeromodels, and was soon replaced with C03 which had a better valvehousing. In 2003 came the FA57C02 with paddles on the steeringwheel, also replaced with C04 with a better valvehousing.
In your case you have to find a FA57C02 or even better, a FA57C04 transmission for your car. An A-transmission in your car will not last so long, depending on your driving habits, of course
