Last year the 99 was in America

I'm looking into buying a parts car for my 1977 99, and the owner of the one I'm looking at claims it's a 1979. I could have sworn that the last year the 99 was in America was 1978, and some of the parts differ from 1978 to 1979. Does anybody know the last year the 99 was in the US? Thanks!

There was a 1979 900 sold in the US but I don't know if they stopped importing the 99 that model year. Check the VIN?

The Saab 99 was sold in USA through 1980, the last 2 years as a "base" model (2 door coupe) only. The VIN should be 9979xxxxxxx.
