Lug Bolts - Wheel Bolts - What is best?
Hi Guys,
I had a bit of a scare with my lug bolts on my 2002 9-5 Aero this past weekend. I ended up replacing them with a pair of used, but in better condition, lug bolts in the interim.
I am online and have no idea which lug bolts are "the best." I don't live on the east coast so corrosion should not be an issue, however my lug bolts snapped and cracked this past weekend while applying the specified torque after a wheel rotation.
An online search reveals that there are floating lug bolts and solid seat cones. My Saab has solid seat cones, but I've read that the floating are better (for reasons unknown to me).
Then there are coating materials: chrome or galvanized. This link talks about how chrome plating is basically as good as zinc but that zinc is prone to rusting eventually. Galvanized seems the strongest?
Should I just not think this hard about it and go with these galvanized ones from eeuroparts?
I may be overthinking it because of the recent bolt failure but I don't want to be driving down the road and suddenly have my lug bolts snap.

I just used stock bolts. I used wheel locks so I had 4 spare ones, the ones that were replaced by the locks. After a few years, I used those and took off 4 bolts, sort of rotating them by age. None of mine were rusty.
