Hello all,

What is the cheapest or wisest way of turbocharging an old '97 900? It's naturally aspiration is letting me down, and being a bit too modified it's all for the track - Phillip Island said they'll just give it a bit of a look over, before I can drive it there, whereas vicroads were quite stubborn about the difference between 1994 and 1997 regarding my wooden steering wheel and the lack of a horn button in the vehicle. No bull! I have a big spotlight on the top anyway and the paint needs redoing, so for now I'm all too keen to keep the old girl on the track and not on the road.

So yeah, I have a Garrett turbocharger with matching kilometers but that's the only piece of the system I have, aside from some of the bent coolant hoses with their weird fittings, or... without those said fittings. I hope Sweden thanks me for all the money I am about to spend on esaabparts.com and they did, last time, they gave me an extra nozzle for my car in case I broke one. They are very friendly, in case you were willing to shop there in Sweden!

Would you do it differently though, instead of buying all of the parts online and from Sweden, as I can perceive that there are different options:

  • I could buy a second Saab 900 Turbo and rip all of the parts out
  • I could buy everything from the wrecker and spend most of my time there lol
  • I could get the guys in Dromana to do it in a custom way, but it's $1,000 per day for their labour (I think, as they said)
