2007 Saab 9-5 BioPower Concept by Rinspeed

Rinspeed is a Swiss company and it is known for their conversions of existing cars and development of concept cars and special vehicles. This was their first attempt to use a Saab and give it their unique touch.

This design exercise of the Saab 9-5 was introduced together with their eXasis glass-free transparent car. The 9-5 features a special yellow gloss paint, a lowered suspension and large custom wheels. It also uses some of the same materials as the futuristic eXasis prototype. The original chrome and other trim of the Saab 9-5 have been reworked with fiberglass pieces with a diamond weave pattern.

The interior was modified as well. The yellow dash panel is made from fiberglass and has the same pattern as the quilted leather seats.  There are yellow accents on the shifter, steering wheel and door handles/panels to match the exterior color. The yellow seat belts and stitching on the seats complete the look of this unique Saab 9-5.

The engine runs on E85 (85% bioethanol blended with 15% gasoline) and produces 180 hp so not a whole lot of excitement under the hood. However, the main purpose of this concept was to show the world you can still have unique cars and driving excitement while caring for the environment at the same time.
