Hot start problem 2006 9-5 petrol aero
My car lets me down from time to time.
It won't restart within 15 minutes when hot, engine turns over fine, but won't fire.
If I leave it for 15 minutes, it starts fine.
Doesn't do it every time, only when I need to be somewhere, or at a petrol station.
Its 160,000 miles old, manual, engine rebuilt at 130,000.
Any thoughts what could be causing this?
I have known a similar fault on a diesel Mercedes be a failing crankshaft position sensor, but has anyone had this happen on a Saab?

Hello and welcome. The problem you're describing sounds like a typical CPS issue on the Saab 9-5.
These threads may be helpful if you want to replace it yourself.

Thanks nordwulf
That is what I suspected - thanks for the confirmation and the links to the "how to" guide. I will have a go myself, then take it to the repair guy down the road when I cannot fix it! He is downhill from me....... He has 40 years experience, I have 40 minutes. But I do remember faults on other cars I have owned, and the last time a 9-5 completely failed to start for me it was the CPS, and it was the night before I had a 6am flight to catch 30 miles away. Luckily I chose to drive to the 7-11 shop half a mile away because it was raining, and it failed in their car park.

I drove Saab 9-5s for 12 years without a DI Cassette in the boot, they really arn't that unreliable. In 25 years of owning Saabs with Direct Ignition I only replaced one DI Cassette, a Red one. It is the earlier ones that have reliability issues but mine didn't just fail, it exhibited running issues before it gave up altogether.
